PRESS RELEASE FROM THE RT HON PETER LILLEY MP

Wednesday December 23rd 2009

LILLEY SAYS HOUSING DECISION IS ‘GRIM CHRISTMAS PRESENT’

Peter Lilley, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, has expressed his unhappiness at the decision by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to give the go ahead for the building of 3,600 houses to the west of Stevenage.

He said: “This is a grim Christmas present for the people of North Hertfordshire. Although not unexpected, government ministers have put the final seal on what is the biggest ever erosion of the Green Belt.

“The decision creates a damaging precedent, but we will redouble our efforts to prevent similar erosion of the Green Belt between Hitchin and Luton and between Luton and Harpenden.”
